Went for Wings and Beer: Back in 5 Minutes

I've been quiet for a week. Some things regarding my old job are really starting to sink in, and I've spent most of my time mulling that over, drinking with friends, and hunting for my next job.

Oh yeah, I also filed my first unemployment claim, and should soon be getting $395 bones or clams, or whatever it is they're called these days in the mail. The Dostoevskian bureaucracy I'd imagined finally reared its ugly head when I found out it could take up to a month for me to get my check.

Did I mention that my apartment was flooded with CO2 last week, almost killing me, and all but destroying the monitor on my computer? I am now about to engage in negotiations with my landlord over reimbursement, fire/CO2 detectors and the like. When it rains it pours . . . there's lots of shit going on.

On the blog tip, I've been mulling over my posting on the Copyright Curriculum project of Downhill Battle's, as well as this thread that Franz participated on over at Bop News (Getting the Dorks out of the Young Dems), and the hullabaloo over at Pandagon, about Grand Theft Auto.

I'll say upfront that having the Dems come out against GTA (and, by association, one form of youth culture - video games) is a horrible idea. But these three things are running through my head. . . something is brewing and I promise I'll have a more meaty post that draws the lines between these three things, and where I think the Dems should start going, in the near future.

was it Candlelight wings?

and, I think the problem with the dorks in the young dems is that it's only the young dems trying to figure out how to make themselves not dorky.

you and I were even removed from it for a little while. As much as I hate to commodify it, you really need someone from culture to say fuck it, this is how it's done. and not try to win over the political people. because i think the political heads will be won over only when it is done the other way.
